Federal Government to freeze Heavy Vehicle Road User Charge at current levels

CVIAV is pleased to report the Federal Government has announced a freeze on Heavy Vehicle Road User Charges at current levels.

CVIAA is pleased to report the Federal Government's announcement of a freeze on Heavy Vehicle Road User Charges at current levels.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, the Hon Michael McCormack MP stated:

“The Road User Charge, which was set to recover the heavy vehicle share of road maintenance and improvements, will stay at 25.8 cents for diesel in 2020-21 instead of increasing by the scheduled 2.5 per cent.”

This comes on the back of heavy industry lobbying by CVIAV, CVIAA and other industry associations who claimed the industry was already under immense cost pressures regarding fuel, road tolls, stamp duty and registration charges.

Component Type Approvals to be managed under new Road Vehicle Standards Act

Through ongoing consultation with industry stakeholders, the Department of Infrastructure has been made aware of concerns that it would be a significant cost and regulatory burden if testing of a component is required to be undertaken where the test evidence remains relevant, correct and current but the test facility registered in RVCS no longer exists.

Members are advised that the Department of Infrastructure (the Department) has released two explanatory documents detailing how Component Type Approvals will be managed under the new Road Vehicle Standards Act (due to come into effect next year).
